Does anyone have a simple write-up for how a newbie would get the game, get a key, find the server, etc. It has to be simple, else it will go over their heads.
I have several friends who are always asking on FB about what cool game they should try next. I don't even bother suggesting OMNI because I can't explain it easily enough and I don't want to be their tech support person.

1) Download the game here: https://archive.org/details/ut2004-3369
2) Extract the .zip file to e.g. C:\UT2004
3) Go here and get a guid: https://web.archive.org/web/20230603121 ... et-a-guid/
4) In C:\UT2004, edit the file 'add-your-cdkey.reg' with notepad.
5) Change the value for "CDKey"= to your new guid and save the file.
6) In windows explorer, double click add-your-cdkey.reg. This will give a scary prompt about changing system settings. Click OK/Yes.
7) double click ut2004.exe from C:\UT2004\System folder
This version is already setup for OpenSpy, so to join the server they just need to click "Join a Game" and click the "Internet" button at the top. For our server they will need to select "Onslaught" in the dropdown and then find our server in the list.

I've added Omni and a few other servers to favorites in that archive alreadycaptainsnarf wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 8:21 pm This version is already setup for OpenSpy, so to join the server they just need to click "Join a Game" and click the "Internet" button at the top. Should we repost on the open part of the forum?

Yes if we want new people that aren't forum members to find it.

Just add it to the front page... it's not like Omni is hosting it

Yeah big font "Download" prompt link with those instructions. It'd be nice to get some new people.
Also Anon it took me way too long to figure out what the top half of your profile pic was.

Thanks. I personally found the older layout better for legibility, but that's just me.
