HooverDam Map..

Post by pooty »

So there's been a few in game requests to bring this monstrosity back.

Which I don't think it should come back until there's some changes made:
- Basement needs to be more accessible
- Better vehicles.

Any volunteers to edit?

I'm not even sure what changes would make this thing playable. Its such a large map that has a bunch of disjointed areas that don't have good interconnectability. It could be made into two separate maps, one that has only the outside area and one that has the internals and basement. The caves can go fuck off. We need more good maps that are playable on 10ish players since that seems to be the only time that any non-dria/junk/minus map has a remote chance of getting voted.

The map is a masterpiece, there is no further work to do. Unfortunately it is not appreciated by the current generation of players. It used to be a nightly delight back in the day.

I agree. The map is a masterpiece. And all the variants we had over the years were fun also. I miss playing them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Not sure I would have ever called playing this map nightly, an era which I was around for, a “delight.” This is not a good map IMO, at least not for ONS.

But I couldn’t care less if you put it back on or not. It’s not likely to get voted often and if it does there’s always less boring and tedious activities available, like scrubbing toilets.

I'm not into this map. But maybe it'd work as a flyer map? Just load it up with raptors. You could at least cut down on commute times between nodes with all that dead space. Of course for the interior stuff you'd have to get out. But even those long cave tunnels can go quicker if you could fly through them.

No the three node core to core in the basement, with pretty much no accessibilty from cores makes the rest of the nodes kind of irrelevant. Yes you can get a badger down there, and a manta, but its tricky, most stains won't try it. And the big open walking spaces, just makes it easy for Snipers, like Anon, to just pick you off from somewhere as you try to move towards 5 with no cover and no vehicles.

Maybe a slight tweak, like vehicle lift/telelporter (there are vehicle lifts on the dam you can use for badgers), but takes way too long.

And core vehicles are kind of weak (no mantas for instance they are all at the uphill primary).

I can say most of our players get flummoxed by complex maps... heck they have time figuring out that when the enemy is building 1/2 on JY they should attack it.

One change is to remove the gravity vortex. You can regain ammo once you drop it and pick it back up right ?

Hell, most of them still haven't figured out 8/9 on MTMU, or 5/6 on Nevermore.

"not appreciated by the current generation of players"

The current generation of players:
1. Grab a flyer.
2. Grab a powerful tank.
3. Shoot at anything that moves or looks like an enemy.
4. Jump like a monkey when death-matching.
