Re: The Threewave CTF grapple from Quake 1
Code: Select all
Priority=20
InventoryGroup=6 // wanted this in 2, but prev/next doesn't work in 2 which makes no sense -- nothing in next/prev makes 2 any different, it works fine in ANY other slot
GroupOffset=117New grapple is a bit different, I didn't play with it much, but its more like a "rubber band" vs. being towed, and it sticks to more than just vehicles. I think on some maps it could be breaking.. I can see the snipers using it to get somewhere high and racking up kills.

Re: The Threewave CTF grapple from Quake 1
Code: Select all
Priority=6
InventoryGroup=2
GroupOffset=1
GroupOffset=icon order (so this puts grapple icon behind AR icon)
Priority=this is independent of weapon number or group offset. SwitchToBestWeapon will switch to the highest priority weapon. SwitchToBestWeapon on spawn is the default setting and is why a lot of players respawn and shoot an avril
I set grapple gun priority to 6 specifically for the BR game mode I'm working on, but anything > 4 would work. AR on slot 2 is 4, the "Soar" gun from Weapons of Evil is on slot 2 as 5, so I put grapple as 6 so when you select weapon 2 you get grapple first if you have it.

Yep for some reason it doesn't work in slot 2. I didn't care where the icon was, but wanted it to cycle through prev/next... which I couldn't get it to in slot 2. Now I have to try the newer one with prev/next, the few times I played with it, was with the number directly -- which always works.

Candylick says the grapple is limited to 5 now. Does that mean you get 5 uses of the grapple per match or per game?

It has 5 ammo. You can get more at a weapon locker like other weapons

Re: The Threewave CTF grapple from Quake 1
I have mixed feelings on this.
Its really cool, and fun, nice job!
But it totally breaks some maps, like Masterbath. You can now 3WG up to the tub from the floor. It really speeds up movement for those that know how to use it. And I suspect there's some that's already set a keybind to it, which makes it a one key zip across the map.... Its like having portable jumppads everywhere.
I like the idea of limiting the ammo, maybe even less 3? Making its use more strategic?
Can we lower the range a bit? Its fine to grapple vehicles, but say going from floor to tub on MB is map breaking. I'm sure there's other maps it will break.
That being said, most seemed to like it, and there was only one that didn't from what I saw, besides me....

Re: The Threewave CTF grapple from Quake 1
I removed it. It was only for Christmas really.
It's there if a mapper wants it to add to the map specifically.
I'll let the players bitch that they want it back.
It is game breaking, like having jetpacks or whatever. This is not Tribes
Most players never did master the art of movement. I'd think point-and-click movement would be popular.

Re: The Threewave CTF grapple from Quake 1
I'm fighting a cold. So I couldn't play for too long last night. I came in and spec'd the MB game in question. I watched Anon, because why not!
He could get killed in opposing tub. Spawn at base, Grapple into medicine cabinet. Zap back across to opposing tub. He could do it so quick, his weapon from previously dying was still there. It was crazy fast.
I'm not opposed to it personally. Would be nice on a few large maps. On MB, it changes quite a bit.
