Next time I hear some jack-ass say map selection is a cause of why the server empties, I'm gonna call Bull Sheet!

I don't see evidence of that from the logs. It appears that the server empties more according to bed-time than map selection.

I dont think a map will empty the server. I have noticed some people wont start playing until that first map of the day gets cycled. If I see you sitting there I'll join and hope others will too.

Clearing the server I think is a perception. Towards the end of the night when people are thinking, one more match maybe only one more round. If a map gets voted they dont care for they might leave 20 minutes earlier. But to say that maps clear the server is an over statement.

Speaking for myself... If its 9:32 PM PST and Dria gets voted Im out for the night. 10 PM I have to spend time with the GF and I dont want to commit to a map that could take too long.

Now everything in between the first and last map? I dont see maps clearing the server.

In the old days, maybe 3-4 years back, I could get a pick-up game easy going on at noon on a weekend. Those days are long gone. Now for me it's dwindling down to where it's past 6 PM before more than a 4x4 gets going.

I think people are in the 30s and up club who play this game . Not much time for evening gaming between work ,kids and the wifey!

We have ages 15(?) to 60+ on the server. The problem for me is that 4x4 game past 6pm is 4pm PST for me.

62 next month. I think Sarge said he is 55 now.

My times are all MST. 6 PM MST so that's 5 PM PST for you and for Leon in Florida it's 8 PM EST. And gawd-forbid AnKeeDo, it's 4 AM GMT+3. That's F'n dedication or he's a night-owl, LOL

Things usually go dark after 10:00 PM MST, except maybe on the weekends. So that's really only a 4 hour window of play time a day with an active server of players.

Question for the Snarf and Pooty: The bots are limited to 3 at the moment. This was for the late-nighters when the games got down to less than 3x3, the bots would jump into vehicles and jump out again. It would leave your mino available to be stolen at the core. Would there be a way to set the bots to 8 or 16 during the day and back to 3 during the night when the server is active?

I'm not sure if there is a way to configure it like that, but I think you could do it manually through the console, e.g.

addbots 8
and there is also

killbots
which kills all the bots

I believe it would only be for that match. It might only be for that round. I'm not sure.

I have been wanting to start a new thread for a feature request. Can we increase the limited number of players to 10 to 12?

When a large maps is being played with a few humans you need the extra bodies to make the match worth playing.

If the min players were 12, and during a match where there are say 14 players, the bots would not be active. But if the player count dropped below 12 at least a bot would jump in and balance the numbers.

As of now 3 humans with 3 bots is insufficient number of players for most medium and large maps. I hope the powers that be take this suggestion into consideration.

The reason the bots are low is that many maps don't have really good bot pathing or ai. Often the bots do dumb shit like get in and out of vehicles...several maps pretty easy to jack the mino when the bot abandons it. So when you make the bots balance up to say 5v5 or 6v6, there will be enough human players but the bots can really mess things up.

Maybe try it a few times manually when an admin is on...

I've occasionally up the bots to 8 or 16 when I'm bored with the Web Administration Interface. But it's only temporary for the current match, it resets back to default when the match is over. It's funny when people join and aren't expecting to see 32 bots, "WTF", LOL I did this on SpamBox recently and it was funny as hell.

Carpe set it to 3 the last time around 4 years back, it used to 8 for the longest time. So it must be a server-side setting that makes it permanent. Does the server side have cron job capability, ie, a script that runs at a specific time?
