The hard part is getting new players to play it. Modern games hold their hand and adjust the difficulty on the fly. There is no incentive to improve or gain skills. They play a game like UT or Quake and get owned initially, and never try to get better, and go back to their Hello Kitty Island Adventures.

Where on reddit? I don't see it anywhere. Does anyone know who mods /r/unrealtournament? They should have pinned posts about how to play each game.

A couple days ago I went to join and could not connect. I had Omni and Ceons saved in my favorites, both did not connect. I tried everything. I tried my other computer and same thing. My internet is fine, the only other common factor is both games go through Steam. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck.

So I found this thread and I'm using Snarf's instructions below to load the game directly, however, the site for getting the GUID does not generate the key when I click the "generate" button. Is there another way to get the key. I did successfully install the game (without patches) and is asks for the key when I start.

Can anyone help? I'm starting to get withdrawal systems.

Okay, so this UT04 download is already modified to connect to Open Spy, Kool!
But, what other mods are in this download?

I'm not sure of all the changes, but off the top of my head:

1) connect to openspy
2) aldehir's patches already applied, info here. There is also a folder included if you want the original exe and dlls
3) a generic CD key. this one is shared quite a bit so you should try to get your own if you can. admins here can provide one if you need it.
4) some minor edits to the default user.ini and ut2004.ini files to fix netspeed and the server browser glitch with high netspeed.
5) All of the original maps, along with all of the 'bonus pack' maps / 'editors choice' maps that were made by the community and published by Epic.

It's basically the minimum edits needed to make this game play well on modern hardware in 2025.

Next weekend I'll download it, take a look into the files, and see if works better than the Steam downloaded version.
