I've skipped a bunch that's more popular/a-list...
Aliens would be on there, Terminator, Most John Hughes films, Star Wars etc.

My teenage kids have seen all four of these movies and asked after watching each one one of them, "why the heck don't they make great movies like these anymore?"

Sadly, all these movies would prob bomb at the box office today.

Technology A.D.D.... needs moar explosions and quick cut perfectly timed goofy dialogue.

I laugh to myself (feel despair) when I convince any of my students to watch Alien, Jurassic Park, or to pick any music album and to lay on their bed sometime and listen to the entire thing and they come back with kind of a "meh" review. Then I get in the mindset of "how will these kids adapt to society?!" but then I realize that they will be the society. Which is probably why elderly people are the way they are. Most people they know are dead & the world is a completely different place. As long as the nursing home has wifi I think i'll be okay though.

What was this thread about?

Great that your kids liked them.

Stand and Deliver is a bit of an outlier compared to these classics. I just love Edward James Olmos and the subject matter is stuff I love. It's about getting disadvantaged kids to take AP Math in HS, a subject dear to my heart.

Yinz are forgetting about the 1989 classic "Things." Free on Tubi, its the best worst movie ever made-even better than Laserblast, Hobgoblins, and Ax'Em. Things isnt a movie to be watched, its an experience to be experienced.
Nah bro I’m sweet.

So lets see for Sanka, must see 80s flicks, in addition to what's mentioned
For the Holidays:
- Trading Places
- Lethal Weapon

Others in no particular order...
- Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) (And Mad Max is good just not 80s) -- no cgi, all the car stunts are real stunts.
- Hawk The Slayer - Good cheesy D&D like movie.
- Flash Gordon - Ornella Muti and Queen soundtrack.
- Highlander
- Spaceballs
- Revenge of the Nerds (recently met Donald Gibbs aka Ogre, also starred in Bloodsport)
- Bloodsport
- The Last Starfighter
- Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
- Valley Girl (Nicholas Cage's finest role)
- Beverly Hills Cop (number 4 coming soon!, don't watch 3 its trash)
- Stripes
- Commando
- WarGames
- Escape from New York
- Full Metal Jacket (and Apocalypse Now but that's more A list)
- Blues Brothers
- Predator
- Airplane! (this is a must see for anyone!)

I've skipped a bunch that's more popular/a-list...
I've seen about half of these! Predator and Spaceballs are two of my all time favs. I wanna add the Deathwish series as a hidden gem. The dialogue is pure trash but it's hilarious . It's like 80's John Wick.

The 80s action is often as hilarious as the dialog, that’s part of the charm and allure. I remember the scene in Commando when Schwarzenegger throws a rotary saw blade at a guy and it cuts off the top of his head as if the blade was thrown to spin at 5000 RPM.

Anyone here actually throw a saw blade like that? I tried it (not at anyone's head!) and I could get it to stick in the side of the shed.
